Is It Fake News or Real News?

Let me start out by saying I have found myself guilty of spreading fake news.

After being confronted by a few friends I began to look for ways that I could protect myself and now I want to empower you with some simple and practical advice that I’ve benefited from in my own life.

We always have a choice!

We can choose to be a part of the problem or we can become the solution to the problem.

The choice is yours as to what role you play in the story of your life.

Our mind needs to rest on a solid foundation if we’re going to end the wildfire of fake news.

Don’t you agree?

Nothing wrong with believing you’re right and believing your right isn’t the same as being right.

*The believing mindset shouldn’t be defended and please be open minded when coming from this perspective.

Opinions are opinions, and an opinion isn’t based on actual facts or actual knowledge that’s why it’s called an opinion.

*The opinion mindset also shouldn’t be defended and needs to keep an open mind.

I’ve been guilty of believing I’m right based on an opinion I had which wasn’t based on truth or facts, but on someone’s belief that they’re right.

It’s easy believe-ism because there isn’t any real work involved on our part we just accept it and believe because it feels good and or feels right.

It might feel good going around on a roller coaster, but if the end of the track leads me off of a cliff, my feeling good just became the cause of my death.

That sucks!

The lazy mind’s tendency;

Doesn’t matter if it’s right or not because it feels good and doesn’t require much from me so I’ll just accept it as true.

That’s what these Prophetears are hoping and banking on.

This seems to be the status quo for a lot of people today, who get their facts from various places, but never bother to do their own research to verify if what they learned is in fact.

Fake news is like a spark going off in the middle of a dry forest that’s thirsty for rain. Instead of getting the desperate water the forest needs someone sets off a spark.

What’s the outcome?

The forest burns to the ground right?

Of course!

If, fake news is like a spark that sets ablaze the dry forest, the real news, is like the life-saving rain that the forest desperately needs to thrive and live in peace with itself.

There’s a legal term that sums up this type of behavior called;

‘Prima Facie’-

  • At first sight, based on what seems to be the truth when first seen or heard:
  • At first appearance; at first view, before investigation.

If where we get our information from isn’t vetted, meaning we ourselves take personal responsibility for fact checking then all we have done is constructed an opinion based on someone else’s belief that they’re right or even worse we take their opinion as being fact.

We can’t afford to just take someone’s word for it these days, especially with the multitude of outlets we can get our information from that is fake news.

Hence the problem with disinformation and the proliferation of false news, propaganda and false narratives all designed to mislead the masses for political gain, greed and or power.

Best to actually go to the government’s own website and dig into reading the law ourselves so that we don’t continue to fuel the madness by peddling someone else’s view as being fact.

Another good habit in fact checking is to look for the links the author provided for further proof and support of their views and story. Follow all the links and read everything. Sometimes links will lead you to more links best to take the time and read through them all.

If an article doesn’t have links to support what they’re peddling as truth, then there’s a good chance they’re a fraud and best to go someplace else for information. If they provide screenshots and documents, then you better take the time to look elsewhere for further support and proof that what they’re showing you is, in fact, real and true.

Sadly, I have to admit that I’ve found myself very easily mislead by a fake news story on occasion.

Why does this happen?

Because a lot of news today is carefully constructed to tug at our hearts and get a response from our emotions, this gets us hooked in and before we know it we’re watching commercials and or viewing ads which generate revenue for them.

Even a single click on a webpage can generate revenue from advertising, hence the use of sensationalized headlines, all constructed to lure us in for the sake of profit.

It’s sad, but money is one of the greatest driving forces for fake news, it’s the cause for why news outlets exploit the facts and sensationalize a story.

It’s a business! Plain and Simple.

The truth isn’t always sexy and truth doesn’t always sell.

This has been the case countless times throughout history and is why there are so many news outlets fighting for our eyes, ears and time.

You owe it to yourself, your family and your friends do your own fact checking before you share anything.

Failure to do so makes you an accomplice to their dubious, greedy and malicious practices.
